Wk 6 - AOTW : Allan Kaprow
About the Artist :
Allan Kaprow is an American painter who was born August 23 1927 in New Jersey and passed away April 5, 2006 at the age of 78. Kaprow began his early education in Arizona where he went to boarding school. And soon attended the High School of Music and Art in New York. He studied in the arts and Philosophy as a graduate student at Columbia University. His Kaprow's “Happenings” changed the definition of the art object it was no longer an object to be viewed on a wall or a pedestal; but rather, it could now be anything at all like including movement and sound.
Formal Analysis :
Allan uses lots of works such as photos and art that is filled with many meanings. His work usually includes full-bodies of people and their enviroment and surrounding area. He uses also his own work withjn works, pieces from his other designs and mashes them together to make a new one out of old ones. He also uses lots of colors and even uses monochrome lens at times to give points and such. He does really well with the content within the works he does, he uses really simple things and brings them into darker themes within that.
Content Analysis
His works seem to revolve around the darker themes when it comes to ones with people within his work. Such as 'Calling' it involves a woman and a man, the woman has been binded by tape and has a look of fear on her face while the man has an intent of something more cruel and it brings more meaning and true problems of that time into thought, it is something that really is pointed out in the picture. His work included more personal things such as his more domestic works that included
family and revolved around that. He has a wide range of works and many meanings behind them which is a really good thing to have when being an artist.
My Experience / Synthesis
Overall I like his work. He has lots of meaning and passion with it, it is obvious he was passionate about his work and it showed throughout the years. I think he is an awesome artist and will still be remembered jn the years to come for his work and all his experience and true analysis he has done with it. I would definitely see myself hanging up works inside my house, it is something that is of my taste and is something that really speaks to me and my taste. So overall, I really enjoyed this artist of the week and loved all his work.
