WK 1/ACT 1

Plaster Casting

To be frank, the middle one isn't my work, but something I tried to follow, but just my own hand. This was my goal, but this all left me in frustration and dirty clothes. I would say I am the more of the artistic type, but for some reason, this activity just wouldn't have it. I went to Wal-Mart and bought everything needed, and after following the instructions, it came out so disfigured I didn't even want to take pictures of it. I went back to Wal-Mart the same day, re bought the supplies, and tried the process again more carefully. After another half-hour, all I ended up with was stained clothes and a broken form of what was supposed to look like a hand. I went back again to Wal-Mart, determined to finish the project before I went to New York for the week, in which the project will be due, and re bought the supplies before trying again. Sadly, it broke once more and after the frustration of having to buy the supplies three times already, I decided to keep the one I first did but refuse to post it online due to how horrid it is and broken it is. As a reflection, it is very difficult, something I didn't think would be difficult, it would be easier to have more time to work on it, but since I am pressed for time due to a trip, I tried my best within the allotted time and will hope this sad attempt can give me some credit for what I have been through these past few hours. If I was actually able to successfully do it, I would definitely keep the hand as a memento and treasure it, but I seemed to have horribly failed with how clumsy I am. Though when I do attempt this again, I will look at these pictures for inspiration once more. These are the ones I did on my fifth try, and they broke but here is a picture to prove I did it.

LANDSCAPE WITH CORPSE

This gives so many opportunities, it is a creative project, yet I am horrible with creativity. If I were to die, I would love to leave my body in my bed, where I feel safe and have no worries. Another place would be in my room, with all my favorite books. I love to read and the books mean so much to me, especially growing up. I am in love with reading and the sky, in my picture where I lay in bed, you can see the reflection of the clouds and sunset in the picture, as that is how I would leave my body. With no worries and in complete serenity, especially with my books, they have influenced my childhood and everything I am now because of these pages I have read. I really like this project, it was fun to take pictures, I tried multiple places but these were the ones that truly meant something to me so I kept these ones as my finals and I really am happy with what I did, I am proud of what I have accomplished and this is a very meaningful picture to me. It really made me think of what was truly important to me, and what I think of myself deep down, using one picture to depict my personality and who I truly am.

GRAFFITI WRITING

So this week was Graffiti writing, it includes spray paint of whatever colors, cardboard or any place to work legally and creativity. It was really fun to do and it was nice to do something where there is no limits other than the size of the cardboard. I liked that I was able to put anything and could use whatever colors. I think it was really easy compared to the plaster casting, which was so hard for me. I put in my name and my name in Korean on the bottom and my name in Japanese on top, it is something very meaningful to me so I liked being able to put it. I never spraypainted before so this was  a first and it was really fun! I can see why people do it, but they need to stick to the areas where it is allowed. There is also a flower which I love floral and flowery designs along with the Japanese flag on the top right which states my ethnicity and what I am proud of. There is also a music note on the bottom right, it is a huge impact on my life, listening to music. All these different things within these symbols all mean something to me and I really liked doing this project, being able to do whatever without limits so this was a good week and very fun and easy!

Phone App

Wk 4 / Act 4

So, for week 4, we need to help create some mobile app art activity. I have an actual idea, where the student could download any collage apps on the app store. There are tons of free picture collage apps, so it won't be a money problem. Then you can take multiple pictures using your body or any part of your body to make a huge picture. If you look at the picture on the side, you can see the idea, it's hard to explain. But you can do whatever shape you want, do the project with someone who means something to do, your friend or significant one. It can include however many people you want, it can be outside in a park, or inside your room, just somewhere that has some meaning to you with someone important. You make a shape and create a full collage picture and the total result is really fun and really cool! You can use it for your project and also keep it for Instagram or your new Facebook profile picture!

GARDEN SKETCHES

So our project was to go to a garden and draw the garden on sketch paper. It was more to focus on our creative side then to be perfect and have an amazing piece of work. I liked this project, it was relaxing and really peaceful to sit in the garden and watch people walk by. It was just people-watching while taking out a sketchbook and drawing. I haven’t had much time to draw so I forgot how it feels to be creative like this, I always worked on my drawing when I was younger so it was easier for it to come to me when I had more time on my hands. I really liked the feeling of going back, it was cool to draw freely and do the little exercises and warm-ups stated. It was hard to draw without looking at the paper, the flower was difficult and it was hard to trace without really looking at the flowers.

This week I visited the art gallery on top of the San Diego Downtown Library. It is on the 9th floor of the newly built library in San Diego Downtown. I went with my friend, it is a smaller museum but it had lots of cool interactive exhibits along with art exhibits. The main focus of this exhibit was climate change which can directly relate to our AOTW, Chris Jordan, who uses his art to give awareness to consequences of humans lifestyle. Lots of the work speaks for itself, it showed the preserved bodies of fish and animals, proving its point on climate change. All the work there had something to do with humans or plant and animal life, it had lots of interactive things where you can listen to nature and sound of trees. It was definitely focused on nature and human consequences, which goes perfectly with this week's artist.

CREATE LA FLAG

This week we had to make a flag, update and create a new one instead of our current one. I decided to shy away from the original colors that we have on our flag since they aren't a good combination, we need colors that will be remembered and compliment each other in some way. I like these colors since they are a good combination and they have the letters 'LA' on them. Maybe with some more updates and add-ons we can adjust and make the flag better but I feel any new flag will be better than our current one, which is not as famous or remembered.
